My Family Tree 2.0.2.0 released
Today, along with our new GEDCOM Validator tool, several updates to My Family Tree have now been released. This build adds several fixes and improvements as well as full support for the final release of Windows 8.

Announcing GEDCOM Validator
In a bid to help users make sure their GEDCOM files follow the GEDCOM specification, a new tool is now available to validate GEDCOM files. Supporting version 5.5 and 5.5.1 of the GEDCOM specification, it will check for problems which may lead to data loss when transferring information between different genealogy programs.
The tool runs directly on your computer allowing it to check files of virtually any size from the safety of your own computer. Full online help is available for each problem which is detected complete with examples of possible causes for each error and instructions on how to fix any problems detected. We hope you find the tool useful.

Feature focus - search for similar names
A new but somewhat hidden feature of My Family Tree allows you to change the search behaviour to show similar matches rather than just exact matches when filtering the lists of people. This works in two ways. To enable this option click the icon on any search box and select "Match similar spellings".

Why is this useful? Well firstly, many people share names with similar roots for example Watts and Watson. Sometimes you may spell a name wrong by mistake for example Wats and Watts. Matching similar spellings will display both results in a search. Secondly, some names have alternative spellings in other languages. For example Smith is a common surname in England. However in Germany, the same name is spelt Schmidt. Matching similar spellings will display both Smith and Schmidt when searching for Smith or Schmidt.

Feature focus - pinning in Windows 7 and later
If you are using Windows 7 and later you can pin My Family Tree to the taskbar. You can then quickly access common tasks by right-click ing over the My Family Tree taskbar icon. For example, you can open recent files, pin files you use frequently, start and new family tree, load web links and import/validate GEDCOM files.
When the My Family Tree is running you can switch the theme of the application from light to dark. Just hover over the My Family Tree taskbar icon and click the switch theme button. If you are playing a video, you can start or pause it in the same way.
If you use Internet Explorer® 9 or later, you can also pin our website to the Windows 7 or Windows 8 taskbar. This gives you quick access to our website, useful links as well as links to the latest news and announcements. To pin our website, visit us in Internet Explorer 9 or later and drag the site icon on to your taskbar.

My Family Tree 2.0.0.0 released
Today we released a new version of My Family Tree. We have added several core new features including better support for GEDCOM files and improved printing functionality with print preview.

My Family Tree 1.0.11.0 released
The new version of My Family Tree adds several new features including a backup and share tool and on this day view. Web reports has also been enhanced to make it simpler and clearer. There have been 100s of small improvements to the user interface to improve readability as well as support for smaller screens and high DPI modes.
